•Ashwagandha is a root herb with adaptogenic properties that relax the nervous system and help the body cope with stress. In Ayurveda, warm whole milk is used as a remedy for insomnia, but if you prefer to avoid dairy, hemp or almond milk are the next best options. Likewise, ghee can be substituted for coconut oil.
1 CUP MILK
2 TSP GHEE OR COCONUT OIL, IF VEGAN
3 BLACK PEPPERCORNS OR 1 STICK OF PIPPALI, GROUND
1⁄2 TSP CINNAMON, GROUND
1⁄2 TSP CARDAMOM, GROUND
A PINCH EACH OF CUMIN, TURMERIC, NUTMEG, ALL GROUND
1/2 TSP ASHWAGANDHA
1 TSP HONEY OR MAPLE SYRUP
OPTIONAL: 1⁄2 TSP VANILLA BEAN POWDER OR ALCOHOL FREE EXTRACT
First, place milk in a small saucepan over medium low heat. As the milk heats, whisk in the spices and ashwagandha. Once well incorporated, add the ghee or coconut oil.
